API's, Mashups, and the New Interconnected Web

Presenter: Chris Millet

Description: More and more web-based services are opening their databases and functionality to 3rd-party developers.  The ability to add value to your website or create novel desktop or web-based applications by leveraging search, maps, social bookmarking, photo sharing, and other powerful collaboration tools has created a whole new landscape of interconnected services.  In this presentation I will provide an overview of the technologies that enable this interconnectedness, including RSS, web services, and the many API's which are freely available from companies like Google, Yahoo, Flickr, and del.icio.us.  Plenty of examples will be provided as inspiration (including several created by the presenter), as well as practical tips for the intermediate-level web professional.

Prerequisite Skills: Experience with dynamic web technologies and web scripting, especially javascript recommended.  Basic familiarity with XML, web-services, and social networks suggested but not required.
