Yahoo! Applications Product Designer, Cindy Li, is this year’s opening keynote speaker. Her design experience ranges from typesetting the 1996 Atlanta Olympics wall and working on Internet television for AOLTV to designing mobile products for Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! Messenger and Flickr.
A resident of San Francisco, Calif., Cindy immigrated with her family to the US when she was 5. She learned English by watching television (her favorite shows were “Wonder Woman” and “Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood”) and then helped to teach the rest of her family. Cindy’s passion for design started when her grandfather taught her how to draw caricatures. At the age of 12, she saved her allowance to buy an Apple IIGs, and so it began.
She was a contributing author to Professional CSS: Cascading Style Sheets for Web Design (Wrox, 2008) and sits on the advisory board for SXSW Interactive. Cindy spoke at Open Web Camp, Girl Geek Dinner, FOWD, Refresh DC, SXSW Interactive, An Event Apart, and contributed articles to .Net Magazine (UK). Cindy learned to sew in 1999 so she could make her own Queen Amidala costume, which became famous on Flickr. She takes pictures of her food and loves to bake lemon curd tarts.
